Fix It Yourself
Ready to repair?
Fix It Yourself covers all of the essential skills of repair, such as lamp fixing, soldering, PAT testing and safe usage of tools.
This course is designed to help you save money, cut waste and get hands-on fixing experience in a friendly environment.
Taking place on Saturdays at the Haringey Fixing Factory, there are eight sessions in total. Each session covers a different topic, so by the end of a term you’ll have learned loads of new skills you can put to use at home - or by volunteering for us!
Each session is designed for beginners and includes a blend of listening, watching demos and hands-on fixing.
-
Session 1: Tools of the Trade (Get familiar with plugs, fuses and a range of tools in this hands-on first session).
Session 2: Fixing in the Kitchen Part 1 (Learn how to repair and maintain kettles and coffee machines)
Session 3: Fixing in the Kitchen Part 2 (Try dismantling and repairing a toaster - discover common problems and how to fix them).
Session 4: Making Connections (Learn all you need to know about wires, circuits, cables, and connectors, with an introduction to soldering).
Session 5: Let There Be Light (Learn how to repair lamp switches, lampshades, lights and bulbs).
