Volunteer Feedback
Fixing Factory is a way of fighting back against the system of planned obsolescence!
Volunteering here has changed how I think about stuff - now when something breaks, my first thought is, can I fix this?
Every item that we fix reduces waste and carbon emissions, and it’s really satisfying to see those numbers go up over time.
I’ve met a lot of really cool people at the Fixing Factory, people who I would have never met otherwise. It’s been great to connect with others who care about repair and sustainability.

I was looking for a community and new skills - and Fixing Factory gave me both.
It’s always great to fix something that doesn’t have to go to the trash.
It is a learning process, but a lot of things can be repaired - I’ve repaired a vacuum cleaner which felt really good!
I’ve been able to save some money by fixing my own things, but volunteering here has also made me think differently about what I buy - now I look for repairable products from brands that offer replacement parts and have a service manual.

When I first came to Fixing Factory, I was blown away! I couldn’t believe there was a place that did this.
I love it here. People are lovely, patient, knowledgable and friendly.
Anybody can come here and learn and it's a great thing to do. I always go home happy after fixing something.
I’m proud of fixing the hoover and a toaster - I did it on my own for the first time! It’s such a great feeling.
Now, if my friends say something’s broken, I’ll say - let’s potter a bit and have a look!

Getting involved with Fixing Factory is such a great opportunity to reduce e-waste and meet other people.
I’m in my 60s working with people in their 20s, and I’m pleased to share my repairing skills with others.
Most people don’t even know how to change a plug, and now we can teach them how to do this with confidence!
When something can’t be repaired, it really makes you think about how products are designed - and how much better it would be if they were built to last.
