Beginner Fixer

Role overview

As a Beginner Fixer, your role is to support the Fixing Factory by preparing donated electrical items for reuse, resale, or donation.

You’ll perform diagnostics, simple repairs, and PAT testing under guidance, and gradually build confidence to assess, test, repair, and sign off items.

We’ll provide training and support so you can grow in this role.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Perform diagnostics on donated items to identify what’s wrong

  2. Carry out simple repairs on small electrical items

  3. PAT test items once repaired

  4. Log repair work in our repair management system (training will be provided)

  5. Return tools to their correct place and keep the workshop tidy

  6. Follow all Fixing Factory procedures including health & safety, safeguarding, and volunteer code of conduct

  7. Attend training sessions required for your role

  8. Contribute to a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment

  9. Be a team player (e.g. skill sharing, washing up, tea making)
